Matagro s.r.o. - certified organic farm
Matagro s.r.o. manages approximately 800 hectares of grassland in organic farming near the village of Ošelín in the Pilsen Region. It is located in the vicinity of the D5 motorway.
Historically, in the 1990s, it was one of the largest agricultural holdings in the former Czechoslovakia, transformed by the State Farm Tachov into many disparate entities. One of them was ZaS Ošelín later Matagro.
Since 2012, the farm has been held by the current owners. Currently, the company operates two centers. The main address is Ošelín 35, where the mechanization is concentrated, at the same time there is the current farm manager and the center of livestock production in the nearby village of Damnov, where the bovine animals are kept. Cows are placed in the three grazing areas with a total area of approximately 300 ha. In the romantic landscape of Western Bohemia we are responsible for keeping three herds in compliance with the rules of organic farming.
At present, the main program is the production of collateral beef. This is, in addition to the best heifers left for their own breeding (closed herd turnover), sold mainly abroad. At present, we do not carry out our own fattening, but this is one of the objectives of our activities expanding. The breed we specialize in is the French meat cattle Limousine. In the basic herd of over 200 mothers so far does not make up 100%, but careful transfer crossing and partly buying quality animals are close to the ideal dream …
